The potential of this young model, intern, and student before him was great enough for Lucius to decide that it could not be ignored and that necessity demanded the cultivation of Jarrett's mind. He was, probably, the most suitable protege that the vampire elder had come across in some time; a prime candidate for right-hand service in his operations. When Lucius had stumbled upon such creatures of beauty or intelligence--or both, as Jarrett exemplified--he would give them the offer of immortality eventually. It would be strictly an offer, though; Lucius would not impose the curse of the damned upon people of such potential, unless he really wanted them for more selfish reasons. If not accepted, he would use them until their bodies made them no longer useful or desirable to what he wished to accomplish.
"I hope to teach you as much as I can. You show great potential, Mr. Beaumont," said Lucius, chuckling lightly and smiling at the lad. How little he knew of how ancient Lucius was to know what he knew. Not even most immortals reached the age of the vampire elder. There were many old immortals, that was true, but of the ancients fewer than a couple dozen were in existence. It was difficult to live so long, even with agelessness.
Lucius stood up straight again, taking a few steps to the model student, and gazed down at him with curious approval. "Your first lesson, lad, is that appearances are always deceiving," said the vampire, smirking some. He reached forward, taking the boy's chin in between his thumb and index finger. He looked down, his blue orbs gazing into the eyes of Jarrett, almost as if looking at his soul--which was, essentially, what he was doing--before releasing his chin. "You'll do well," nodded Lucius, his hand shifting and patting Jarrett on the shoulder.
"I'm away to business, now. Good luck, Mr. Beaumont. Keep up the good work," said Lucius with a nod before turning and leaving the vaults.
