Picture(s):
Name: Lucius Maximilian Cornelianus Erif de Romanus
Alias: Lucius de Romanus, Lucius Montagu, Lucius Zane, Maxwell Erif, Viscount Lucius Cornelius, and many others.
Sex: Male
Sexuality: Straight, though has been known to go the other way when it suits him.
Race: Vampire (Elder)
Powers/Abilities:
Intelligence-- Lucius has a near-photographic memory, allowing him to retain all he has learnt from the tens of thousands of books he has read. This has given him peculiar insight into things, and also made him fluent in many languages and brilliant in terms of strategy.
Physical Powers-- Lucius is abnormally agile, and his senses incredibly enhanced. Compared to some other, though, he does lack in strength. His general physical powers are greater than those of most vampires, though, given his age.
Day Walking-- Lucius can survive for brief periods of time in the sunlight. However, it makes him look far paler than he usually does, and he requires sunglasses lest his retinas burn. Most of his other abilities and reflexes are dulled considerably in the sunlight. In such form he also burns incredibly easily.
Animal Magnetism-- Lucius is able to enhance his charisma considerably, drawing others to his magnetic personality. This also includes some animals--the typical bats, rats, and wolves--who are drawn to do his will.
Levitation-- Lucius is able to levitate in the air, but is not able to actively fly.
Mild Telekinesis-- Lucius can make a few things move with a wave of his hand; open doors and shutter windows and whatnot. If he focuses enough, he can move an object as big as another human. This mild telekinesis is also what helps him with the aforementioned levitation.
Shape Shifting-- Lucius is capable of shifting his shape into a mist and maintaining his intelligence. In this form he moves very slow, and can do no harm to someone other than blot out their surroundings. Such shifting has been known to exhaust him if done for long periods of time.
Dream Invasion-- Lucius is able to enter the dreams of others and manipulate the foggy images that they see. While doing this, he himself is effectively incapacitated, having to focus solely on the sleeping person he is antagonizing or speaking to. Therefor, he has to ensure that someone else is securing him to keep himself safe while performing this feat. This also assists in his ability to keep others from his mind.
Empathy-- Lucius is able to feel the feelings of others, allowing him to sense both their moods and their intentions towards things. He can feel their pain, their joy, their sorrows, their triumphs. It is almost like mind reading, though not as direct; he cannot see exactly what they are thinking, just the type of mood they are in. His skills are also able to block others from being able to read his own mind.
Revelation--With his empathetic skills and intelligence, he can inherit all of another creature's memories when drinking their blood. This is incredibly, incredibly exhausting for him to do though, and afterwards he needs others to ensure his protection while he recuperates. Also, the memories are rarely coherent, coming in flashes. Also, when he drinks the blood of other vampires or mortals with powers, he runs the possibility of inheriting their powers, though usually weaker.
Age: He has the appearance of a man in his mid-20s, when he was in fact born in 175 AD, making him over 1,800 years old.
Height: 6'2''
Weight: 168 pounds
Occupation: Newspaper and Telecommunications Magnate (CEO of ZaneCorp)
Weapon(s): He is a weapon in and of himself. He is capable of using guns and has a specialty with blades, but does not actively carry them with him unless the situation calls for it.
Accessories: He is a man with many articles of clothing and adornment. Special ones however are a signet ring bearing the seal of his ancient family (a scorpion) upon it, a pendant he always wears around his neck made of emerald, and his specially modified cellular telephone.
Appearance:
Lucius is a very handsome individual, frozen in his youthful form. He stands tall and has a regal bearing about him, much in thanks to his upbringing as a Roman aristocrat. His body his well-developed, lean, and strong. His hair is a dark brown, though he has been known to lighten or darken it at times and alter its length. His eyes are naturally a blue, though they have been known to get a silver look about them when he is introspective and a yellow glint about them when he is agitated. When in full vampire lust or anger, they can turn completely black. Unlike most other vampires, his skin is not as incredibly pale; he has managed to keep some coloring it. When in the sunlight, though, it is very pale and his veins can be seen beneath it.
He has a very fine taste in clothing and can often be seen in personally-tailored suits. He tends to wear darker-colored ones, though has been known to branch out. Meticulously vain about his appearance, he keeps himself very well-kept and groomed.
The vampire elder has a scar on his chest; a relic from a particularly nasty fight he got into several centuries ago. Struck by some sort of enchanted blade, it did not heal all the way and remains as a reminder for him not to go getting any delusions of grandeur.
Personality:
Charming, charismatic, brilliant, and vain, Lucius is an ancient vampire who has seen a lot in the world and would like to continue to see more. The thing he has always been best at is surviving, and it is his want for survival that motivates him the most. He has seen empires rise and fall, and is proud of that fact that despite so many changes in the world, he remains as a constant. Curious and cultured, he enjoys learning and reading, constantly craving intellectual stimulation; he likes to be someone who not only is in the know about all of the information, but controls much of it as well.
Lucius is a natural leader given his charismatic personality and his silver tongue, and has played the role of politician many times over the years. After centuries of such play, though, he came to admire peace and solitude, and realized that it was so much easier (and safer) to pull puppet strings from the shadows than appear to wield the real power. This has transformed him from someone who likes to be the face of power into someone who prefers to manipulate situations to his benefit rather than directly guide them; manipulation is his game. He is a master of toying with people, using his charm and silver-tongue to push them whatever direction he needs them to go. Occasionally, he enjoys his games a little too much and ends up causing messes, but for the most part he is a cautious individual.
He enjoys the finer things in life and is often unwilling to sacrifice anything of himself for the greater good. He tends to stay out of the war between the vampires and lycans, only intervening when it would suit his own personal interest. Given his magnetic personality and silver tongue, and the respect that his character commands, the vampires have used him to officially negotiate with other races in the past (a task he usually demands a high price for), but other than that he tries to avoid the fighting. He will sit back and let others battle it out, only offering suggestions from the sidelines and making sure that the vampires don't overlook important things.
An ancient vampire and subsequently wise, he does what he can to preserve his kind from complete destruction-- that is, total annihilation. While he will not swear loyalty to vampires and sometimes sacrifices them, he usually does so to ensure the greater survival of the whole race. This motivates him to keep vampires from the eyes of the humans. He thinks that all races can coexist, but in order to work for that they must first unite to keep as much of their underworld secret from the humans as they can.
He greatly admires humans and their ability to adapt and change with things, unlike vampires-- creatures frozen in time. After the centuries, he has come to embrace that small bit of humanity left in him, and feels remorse when killing humans. He tries to prey on just evil-doers, but even this is problematic for him. Yet, fearful of both God and Satan, he continues to live, trying to do his best to secure peace between the races.

History:
Lucius Cornelianus was born in 175 AD during the reign of Marcus Aurelius. His family was of the patrician gens, his father acting as a member of the Roman Senate and the commander of one of Rome's legions. Lucius grew up in the city of Rome itself, living the life of an aristocrat. Highly intelligent and charismatic, he was admitted to the Roman Senate at the age of twenty, and then went off to serve the army in campaigns against the the rebellious Clodius Albinus in Gaul. While fighting in the legions of Emperor Septimius Severus, he was encountered by a vampire of the name of Magnus, who turned Lucius.
Lucius lived with Magnus for nearly a century, learning the ways of being a vampire from the mysterious man. Then, suddenly and unexpectedly, Magnus left Lucius without explanation, and the younger vampire made his way back to his home of Rome. He joined the Servian Coven in Rome, and after a few decades rose to be its leader. As the Roman Empire began to disintegrate in the fifth century, his coven fell into infighting. Similarly, with the strengthening of Christianity in Rome and thus the greater presence of angels, the coven could stand no longer and eventually fell.
Abandoning his villas and prestige in Italy, Lucius took to his first tour of the world, traveling along the Mediterranean and visiting everywhere from Constantinople to Jerusalem to Alexandria. He settled temporarily in Egypt, staying with a coven there for a short time before taking a trip to the far East. In China, he got embroiled in some conflict between Fae and dark angels of some sect, and managed to broker a peace between them in exchange for all of their tomes of knowledge.
In about the year 700, he appeared around Ireland and Britannia, occasionally rising as some powerful warlord or nobleman, playing politics and commanding armies in the destruction of towns and villages. He seemed to enjoy toying with history in such ways, and took the opportunities to seduce and sleep with queens and princesses. In the year 1000, he traveled with Emperor Otto III to Rome as a member of his court, returning home for the first time in centuries. Originally under the belief that all who had been around at the same time as him had died, he was surprised to be recognized by a rival vampire by the name of Zanius. The two fought, and were found by hunters in the process. Both were captured and brought before Pope Sylvester II, who was trying to learn all he could of 'unholy creatures' in the city.
Sylvester proved to be an incredibly interesting fellow to Lucius. The pope was well-versed in the arts of magic, astrology, and demonism, and Lucius managed to take the 'Christian' leader into freeing him and using him as an advisor. The pope obliged and sent Lucius on missions to the Islamic world to learn their arts and sciences, reporting what he discovered back to the Pope. Lucius was also introduced to the Pope's lover, a demon named Meridiana, whom he developed a friendship with. However, the master of Rome at that time--a nobleman named Crescentius--grew suspicious of the Pope's dealings and had him poisoned, then tried to route out all of the demons and vampires he had been consorting with. Lucius fled Rome with Meridiana, and the pair relocated temporarily to Ireland.
They lived together on the emerald island for some time as the various Irish kings fought for dominance. Growing bored, they too soon tried to play the game and take over the island, but were rebuffed. Meridiana was slain by angels after attacking a church, and Lucius had his manor lost by vampire hunters who had gotten a whiff of who he was and marked him as top priority to be slain. Losing his close friend and companion, Lucius retreated into solitude for nearly a century, watching from the shadows as vampires and all sorts of other creatures fought.
He spent the next few centuries playing the part of an aristocrat in various societies, popping up here and there around Europe and staying in certain areas until things got uncomfortable or boring. He witnessed great events in history and dined with some of history's greatest characters, all the while studying and amassing huge stores of knowledge in his mind. He remained, for the most part, a loner, but he would occasionally step in and help a vampire coven in either destroying or negotiating with any enemies, usually charging prices for such gifts. One of his greatest prizes came from a coven he aided in Hungary once, where another vampire elder taught him the art of levitation.
It was also in the period of time that he began to grow more ambitious than usual. Not liking being hunted, and watching as the fools of Europe tore themselves apart in this dark age, he decided to join a coven in eastern Europe in its attempt to create some sort of odd hybrid army to take over the world. Suffering from delusions of grandeur, they were eventually destroyed by rival races, Lucius suffering a huge personal defeat and fleeing into shame and hiding for a short time.
In the 16th century, the world seemed to get fun again and Lucius returned to the spotlight, first hanging out in Florence, Italy, for its renaissance--dealing with the intrigues of the Medici Family, dining with Machiavelli, and observing the genius artists do their work--and then traveling to London, England, and living in the highly entertaining court of Henry VIII as a viscount. In the 18th Century, he traveled to the New World and explored all of it, meeting (and occasionally fighting, though for the most part he would talk himself out of fighting-- people were much more beneficial to talk to) races of all kinds. When the American Revolution came underway, he decided to take a front seat; the amount of blood spilled was enough to draw him and many other creatures to the scene.
After the Americans had settled into their new government, Lucius grew bored once more and returned to Europe. There, he witnessed the French Revolution, and decided to take an active part in it. Playing the role of a French aristocrat-turned-revolutionary, he used the revolution to get back at the Catholic Church for causing him so much pain in the best. He eventually came to be a co-leader of a powerful coven in Paris during the revolution, and remained there for a few decades. Lucius became a personal friend of the great Talleyrand.
With Napoleon's final defeat and peace returning to France, Lucius embarked on another world tour, traveling throughout the several continents and finally relocating in America by the mid-19th century. He lived in New York City for some time, until he was discovered when a trap was laid for him by an incredibly beautiful young woman that managed to entice him into revealing who he was, tipping off a group of vampire hunters. He moved down to New Orleans, where he remained throughout the Civil War, and soon moved west, exploring and learning, helping begin the populating of the Western United States with vampires by turning a few here and there, creating new covens.
History began to move rapidly at this point in time, technology growing at a faster rate than Lucius had ever seen in his centuries of deathly life. He eventually settled into this city under the guise of being some genius billionaire, founding his own newspaper (and eventually telecommunications) company. Staying out of politics, he nonetheless wields great power by controlling the flow of information in the city. Manipulating the news and keeping tabs on people's phone calls, he makes sure that his kind are kept safe from the prying eyes of the public.
Though he has not yet joined on with any official coven, prefering his independence, he does advise the Storm Clan as an Elder and other vampires as well from time to time, and tips off other vampires when he learns that they have been discovered. His power and the level of respect he wields is usually enough to keep him safe from others-- lycans and vampires alike seem to understand that he is far better to use as a negotiator than have as an enemy, and, thanks of his lack of loyalty to anyone but himself, the various races will use him as a middle man in things.
Keeping up the part of a successful playboy billionaire, he partially owns many hotspots in towns and likes to go out on the nights, seducing young ladies (and, if he needs information or something in particular, occasionally other men) into his bed, and otherwise preying on villainous people. He actively takes part in the slave trade, helping secure the slave market from time to time and, of course, purchasing his own slaves for his own needs and desires.
His company is called ZaneCorp, and prints out the city's largest newspaper, as well as controls TV Channel 13. Apart from the news, it is a telecommunications company that does a lot with telephones, computers, and other technology in the city.
As the conflicts between the races continue to flare up and intrigues abound, Lucius tries to remain neutral and to keep the fighting out of the eyes of the human public. The ancient, elder vampire has seen these petty conflicts escalate for almost two millennia, and has decided they are not worth his time. Nonetheless, he tries to remain as a source of information for people, keeping him useful to all sides, and tries to keep the general peace and prevent the war from spilling over into the public sphere-- mostly for his own benefit, of course. He could be bought by anyone or persuaded to join someone's mission. But, for a man of riches and power, it would take a lot of special convincing. Of course, seduction and blackmail can always work too....

EDIT: Added in some things about ZaneCorp. 5/25/09---
ZaneCorp Enterprises
ZaneCorp was first founded by Lucius some eighty years ago, originally as the Nox News when the city was first beginning to become founded. Since then, it has come to dominate the media in the city, running the most-watched news station (Channel 13) and circulating the city's largest newspaper. It's branches have expanded to cover the city's telecommunications too, with ZaneCorp being the largest telephone, cable, and internet provider in the city. A great deal of funding it put into technology, keeping ZaneCorp on the forefront of weapons and communications developments, many having to do with the dealings of the underworld.
With cameras located all over the city and his communications satellites doubling as observance satellites, Lucius Erif is able to monitor things around the city visually, and controlling communications, audibly as well. He uses his dominance of the media and subsequent influence over city politicians to do all he can to keep vampires and other creatures out of the eyes of the general public. The ancient vampire believes that humans and other creatures can coexist, but only if the underworld remains safely hidden from most people. ZaneCorp's industries are used to pursue this.
ZaneCorp also provides a cover for Lucius' collections. He preserves art, books, and artifacts from around the globe in the vaults of ZaneCorp Tower. The company also funds projects and donates to charities around the city to keep in the good favor of the public. Recently, ZaneCorp has been looking to expand its services into banking and medicine, first contemplating taking over the city's largest bank.

Ah, got it, hah.
