Though the day had worn into late afternoon, the sky remained overcast and gray, heavy with rain it seemed indecisive about releasing. The air below the clouds was humid and warm, leaving a muggy, pervasive heat that choked the city's inhabitants and left smog hanging motionless in the kind of day that was absolutely desperate for a breeze.
It was in the middle of a day like this that Malachi Logos was stalking his latest suspect in his own personal investigation into the slavery-ridden underbelly of the city of Noctum. The titan of a man was after one of his own kind today, a 'dark angel' who had his hands in several slave-rings around the city-- an important (and fairly well protected) figure who had been rather difficult to ensnare. Chi, however, was diligent, dauntless, and had more than enough experience to know how do deal with his type. The white angel had managed to get the baddie on his own-- now all Malachi needed to do was catch up to him, and it would all be over.
And so, there he was, lurking around the corridors of an abandoned, grimy school, dripping with sweat. The angel could feel it sliding down his spine below the fabric of a gray tee, his wings pulled in close to his body in his attempt at stealth. He was unarmed, as per usual-- Chi had never had much of a fondness for weapons, preferring a comprehensive knowledge of defensive techniques, rapid healing capabilities and some serious kung-fu talent. Still, he was obviously combat-ready, keeping his muscles loose and his steps light, eyes glinting white even in the half-light of the unlit school halls.
There! Chi had heard a noise in one of the nearby classrooms-- it had to be his man. The angel moved as noiselessly as he could manage until he stood just outside the door, pressed against the wall. He took a fortifying inhalation of breath, and then threw himself violently into the classroom, fists at the ready. It was a sort of "Aha! I have you now!" moment, complete with triumphant yell, wings boosting him into the room with a single flap before he really had time to survey the place...or it's inhabitant.
